Adult Immersion Courses

This summer, we are offering 3 week-long English language immersion courses in Limerick City in the South West of Ireland.

Do you need to use English for work? Business English? For study? To travel?

Our courses take into account our participants’ professional and linguistic needs, with detailed tests and a needs analysis at the beginning of the course and continuous feedback throughout.

Courses run for three weeks, and participants study and take part in monitored activities, with their English language instructors, from 8:30am until the night time. Every Saturday there is a cultural trip, while Sundays are left for free time.

Typical activities include consolidation of grammatical knowledge, vocabulary learning strategies, listening practice, presentations, debates and telephone conversations. It’s not all work and no play though: cultural visits, sports, Happy Hours and barbecues will give you a chance to practise your English in a more relaxed environment too.

The courses are offered at an independent education institution in Limerick. Accommodation for the week, as well meals* and social activities, are included in the course price. Contact us today to find out more!

Why choose English Week?

There are many English Language courses out there, each one with its own advantages and disadvantages. Some are more suitable for certain types of learners than others. How can you determine if an English Week course is the right one for you?

Here are some of the reasons why motivated learners choose English Week:

  1. A team of well-qualified, experienced, enthusiastic, highly-dedicated teachers.
  2. Participants speak English all the time. The courses begin at  8:30am, and finish at the end of the evening activity, which could be at 8:00pm or 12:00am, depending on the activity. During this time, the participants do not get the opportunity to revert to their native language.
  3. Participants will not be bored as they will be actively improving their language skills during their entire course.
  4. English Week courses are efficient. Because they are just one week long, they suit busy professionals and students who might not have time to sign up for a traditional, month-long language programme. However, because of the language exposure that participants receive, they are an efficient way of improving vocabulary, eliminating grammar errors, and improving communicative confidence.
  5. Tailor-made courses: a detailed needs analysis of the group of students takes place at the beginning of the course, so that English Week courses really provides the language that the group needs.
  6. Methodology: a combination of teacher input led classes, error analysis, listening practice and conversation opportunities in the afternoons cover the four major language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) in depth.
  7. Comfortable, welcoming accommodation for the course is included in the price.
  8. An end-of-course celebratory party in one of Limerick city centre.
  9. It’s not all work and no play: one free trip a week is included to the magnificent Cliffs of Moher, or another tourist attraction if the group requests it.
  10. All course materials, including a souvenir DVD, as well as free entry to Limerick’s main tourist attractions, such as King John’s Castle, the Hunt Museum, the Thomond Park Stadium Museum and St Mary’s Cathedral are included.

*This applies to participants who choose Host Family Accommodation. People who choose to stay in a Bed and Breakfast only have their breakfasts included.

Testimonials: What People Are Saying

August 2014 Immersion Course

I changed my flight just to participate in the intensive course of English Week. The course is heavy – it’s for the entire day and part of the night – however, the night-time classes take place in various cultural and interesting places in Limerick. It was worth every minute and every cent. I would recommend it!

Recomendo!

Salis from Brasilía, Brazil

Thank you so much for this great and intense experience! As each day passed, I could feel my English fluency improving. I enjoyed the conversation activities, the grammar lessons and trips. On Thursday, we went to a play in the theatre; I was so happy that I could understand the actors – I really felt my listening progressed! Limerick is a wonderful city, and Ireland is a beautiful country.

Francesca from Florence, Italy

Good teachers, good people, good experience. Not only at the school; we spent our time playing football, going on excursions, clubbing, etc. We made good friends in Limerick! 🙂

Testimonials

Our goal here at English Week is to get our learners thinking in English, help them lose the fear of making mistakes and get them to speak English with confidence.

A question that people often ask us is “How can I noticeably improve my English in just one week?”

With the supportive learning environment and motivation provided by English Week you can.

Our courses are different from many other language schools, as the students only study here for one week. However, they study in a fully immersive English language environment, from the moment they wake up until when they go to sleep, maximising their exposure to the target language.

English Week will have its first course this autumn. However, the structure of the courses and methodology used are closely modelled on those offered by Celil Immersion, a Brazilian language teaching company  which has been successfully running week-long Immersion courses for over twenty years. James Gaffney, Director of English Week, taught there before setting up English Week.  Below you can read some testimonials from some of his students on the Celil Immersion courses, in which they emphasise the benefit of this type of week-long intensive language learning programme.
